Perpendicular Lines
The library's entrance beckoned the friends, who were waiting outside, wondering whether they should enter. The towering shelves were filled with books that seemed to hold endless adventures, and they just couldn’t resist.
Once inside, the friends wandered through the aisles, their eyes lighting up at the vast collection of stories waiting to be discovered. Seeking a cozy spot, they found themselves near a bookshelf that seemed to whisper promises of enchanting tales. Liam pulled out a chair, and Maya and Zoey settled down, surrounded by the comforting scent of aged paper.
Liam, the curious leader of the group, pointed at the bookshelf and said, "Behold, the magical meeting point of perpendicular lines! These lines are like friends giving each other a perfect high-five, creating a right angle at their intersection."
He continued, "Perpendicular lines are special because they meet at a 90-degree angle, forming a square corner. That’s why when people draw perpendicular angles, they draw a little square in the corner."
As they followed the roads, Maya observed, "So, perpendicular lines not only meet but create a right angle?"
Liam nodded, "Exactly! Think of a window. The side of the window forms a right angle with the bottom of the window. They’re perpendicular!”
Orion, the ever-curious robot, added, "So, I guess this does really apply to the bookshelves here in the library. Can you explain it a bit more though? What do they have to do with perpendicular lines?"
Liam smiled, "Great observation, Orion! Bookshelves usually stand perpendicular to the floor, and they form right angles.”
After Liam’s explanation of perpendicular lines, Maya and Zoey seemed to notice them everywhere. The corner of the page of Zoey’s book was a right angle! The edge of Maya’s space poster was formed by perpendicular lines! These types of lines were truly everywhere around them - they just hadn’t been looking before.
